Let your teen know they have your full support through thick an thin — it might seem obvious to you but it’s something that they might forget when they are facing big challenges. They may feel embarrassed about what they are going through or don’t think you’ll understand.
Telling them about your own adolescence can help them relate to you. Sharing the story of your first heartbreak or spending weeks preparing college applications reminds them the they aren’t the first person to feel how they do, and that it’s okay to feel hurt, or betrayed or stressed.
