When parents are asked what they want for their children, the most common answer is simple; we want them to be happy! Here are seven parenting tips to help guide your child towards a joyful life.
1. Don’t Fight in Front of Them
Conflicts are a natural part of any relationship, but for parents the key to having well-balanced children is to resolve arguments the right way. The best thing you can do for your child is to engage in respectful communication with your partner.
“Frequent, unresolved fighting chips away at confidence, triggering sadness, anxiety, and fear in children of all ages,” explains Dr. Cummings from the University of Rochester. Make sure you and your partner are on the same page when it comes to resolving conflicts in front of the kids.
Dr. Donald Gordon, founder of Parenting Wisely, suggests “treating each other with respect, no hitting, pushing or shoving, no character assaults, no door slamming and agreement about topics that are not up for debate in front of the children.”
