3. Set a Goal

Be realistic with yourself. You probably won’t be on a national lecture tour anytime soon, and that’s okay. Having expectations that are too high will result in you feeling let down and disappointed. Rate your current speaking ability and set a goal that is one or two notches higher. If you are a 0 out of 10, set your target at a 2 or a 3. Now, visualize and write down how well a level 2 public speaker would do. What qualities would they have? What things would they need to work on? Relate this information to your own speaking to gain an appropriate direction. This will motivate you to reach an attainable goal.
