Break out the Holiday Cheer One Movie at a Time
It’s the most wonderful time of the year and you know what that means. School will be letting out soon for the holidays and you’ll need to keep the kids entertained and out of trouble.
With Christmas just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to sit back and relax at home with a family-friendly film. Here are the best Christmas movies to watch with your kids this holiday season.
1. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
All of your favorite Muppets including Kermit the Frog, Gonzo and Miss Piggy come together for a wonderfully entertaining musical version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Michael Caine stars as Ebenezer Scrooge, the bah-humbug swearing old codger who turns his life around after a visit from the three Christmas ghosts.
Although there are a few scary moments, most of the film is broken up with comic relief provided by Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat who serve as narrators for the story.
2. Ernest Saves Christmas (1988)
One of the most convoluted Christmas movies of all time, Ernest Saves Christmas stars Jim Varney in his defining role as Ernest P. Worrell. Ernest has to help Santa Claus find his replacement, Joe Carruthers, the star of a local children’s show, or there will be no more Christmas for good!
Kids will love all the physical comedy and wacky characters, especially all those played by rubber faced Varney.
3. Elf (2003)
Who would have thought that having Will Ferrell play an oversized version of one of Santa’s elves would amount to what is arguably the funniest Christmas film in the last 15 years, if not ever? Elf tells the story of a man raised at the North Pole who journeys to New York in order to find his real father.
Hilarity ensues and, in the process, Buddy the Elf teaches everyone about the true spirit of Christmas. Fun for all ages!
