7. Your Children Know How to Treat Animals
Have your children been exposed to the animal they desire? Visiting with a family member or friends’ animal is a great way to assess how your children will interact with a pet. If they are frightened or standoffish, hold off on getting an animal until you find out why. Any aggressive behavior towards animals is a definite red flag as this will most likely provoke an animal and endanger your child. Teach your children how to approach the animal and lay down guidelines about what is and isn’t ok to do to them.
