5. You Have Enough Space
This one is less of an issue if you’re considering an animal with a caged habitat, but even then you need to figure out where to put it. The larger the animal, the more space it will need. Cats need less surface area than dogs, but require vertical platforms of space to engage with. This is why cats love jumping up onto tables, shelving, windowsills, and the like. Dogs, on the other hand, need a lot more space to run and play in. A small apartment isn’t going to cut it unless you have a lap dog breed. Make sure you have access to parks or have a large backyard to allow larger dogs to run around.
